Weekends in the summer should always be like this! A day at the beach with a blue sky, sunshine and nice sand.
I love going to the beach but there are two things these days that I am never without when hanging out at the beach with my friends.
1) A big huge sunhat to keep the rays off my face
2) Sunscreen- Lately I’m wearing Soleil Biafine Sunscreen Milk. It smells awesome and is really protective. I bought it while in Paris and I just found out you can buy it on Amazon so when I run out, I will look for it there!
I ran into a very stylish woman in Florence when I was there for Pitti Uomo. I was walking on the street next to her and finally had to stop her. I was really curious about her style. She was wearing silver Birkenstocks with turquoise painted toes. Ray ban sunglasses. A long cotton poplin Marni looking dress, and a clear lucite handbag. She was so chic with her silver grey bob.
When I complimented her style, she proudly said, “do you want to know how old I am?” beaming with pride she exclaimed, “77″.
Wow, I hope I’m that hip when I’m 77. I wanted to photograph her but all of the sudden I got shy. What if she wasn’t really into street style? What if she thought it was silly? So I just kept chatting with her instead.
Her name was Cornelia. Originally from Florence, and always having an interest in fashion and style, she was happy to have a chat with someone visiting her city for a fashion event.
I asked her how her skin looked so fantastic. All my friends I know in Tuscany are sun worshipers even though they take great care of their skin finding nice smelling products at places like the Santa Maria Novella Farmacia.
Noticing Cornelia’s bronzed skin, I was guessing she loved the sun too.
I asked her about SPF and she laughed. “Honey, we didn’t bother with those sorts of things”. “We just threw on a hat”.
A hat, of course!
Ever since I’ve been reading lately that SPF doesn’t protect against all types of skin cancer, I’ve been all about the big floppy hats too!
Do you like to wear hats in the summer? What’s your favorite sunscreen?
