I was going back through my runway fashion shows and kept coming back to this image from the Chloe runway 2013 Paris fashion week.
Every woman needs a great white shirt! They look chic with everything. I’m on the quest for one!
A white shirt can refine anything and make you feel crisp and polished. They look super cool with jeans, or more dressed up with a pencil skirt or blazer.
Something about a white shirt always makes me feel pulled together, even when I’m tired or was rushed to get ready.
You want to know my favorite thing about a white shirt? Borrowing it from a guy. The oversized shirt all cuffed up and slightly unbuttoned just feels like there is nothing else needed and is a go to for me often.
Did you know that the white shirt came about mostly in the 20’s when ladies would make elegant dresses reconstructing their husbands shirts?
Then Marlene Dietrich showed up on set in the move Blue Lagune in her white shirt. Unheard of for women at the time, but the director liked it and added the tux, this seems like when Menswear for Women really started.
Who could forget some of the iconic images of Coco Chanel in her white shirts. She would often wear them with jackets she made, or a tie or a hat.
Of course, one of my favorites, Audrey Hepburn wore white shirts tucked into her black pants and belted long before she had a personal designer. She’s been quoted many years later as saying she felt this was one of the most elegant looks she ever wore.
Could there me a more important item in a woman’s wardrobe? Ok, ok, I think the little black dress wins, but the white shirt is right up there with the little black dress for me.
To me, this Chloe white shirt is perfect. I can’t wait to try it on for Fall.
Not to mention, I love that Anna Wintour is in the background of the shot. I wonder what she thinks of the white shirt?
