Beauty notes Herve leger fall 2014
The look for the Herve Leger fall 2014 took on a sci fi feeling with a bold graphic eye and technicolor pops of color in slicked back high ponytails.
What better way to accent a collection that felt like it had futuristic details that reminded you of films like the Fifth Element with leather cutwork on corset like pieces. With references on the creative direction from Lubov Azria deriving from a woman in a digital game, makeup artist Val Garland for Temptu went in a cyber direction.
The bold, double flick eye got our attention and Garland was quick to distinguish “this isn’t your mother’s cat eye”.
How to get the makeup look
Garland kept the face very minimalistic and bare to exaggerate the focus to the eye. Using Temptu’s airpod foundation and highlighter, she created a fresh and illuminated face with an absolute flawless complexion. Guys, have you seen this stuff, it’s amazing??!! Then, the highlight, the double flick. Garland used a liquid black liner to line the lash line and wing it out, while continuing with a second line into the crease. She applied a black powder over the line to set it, which is something I’ve never tried. Interesting.
The finishing touch was a gloss on the lips so that the eye was matte and bold, with a high shine lip. No mascara.
How to get the hair look
For the technicolor ponytail, Laurent Philippon of Bumble and Bumble created a sleek and slicked back, equestrian style ponytail. Philippon carefully added colorful extensions using a double sided tape that was heated and then set the look using Bumble and Bumble Spray de Mode.
The natural nail look was created using Essie nail polish.
