We’ve been talking a lot about Thanksgiving over at carlytati.com. This year, i’m excited to be bringing Thanksgiving to a group of French friends. It will be their first Thanksgiving ever, so I want to make sure the food is delicious and really traditional so they can experience one of the American traditions of the Thanksgiving dinner. We are celebrating early, doing the dinner tomorrow.
Today, I will be rounding up the ingredients. Things like cranberries, and Turkeys aren’t so common over here, but I hear that chestnuts are easy to find which helps for the chestnut stuffing I’m planning to make.
I am guessing I will have to go to a few of the different supermarkets to find all the right ingredients. Luckily, dinner will be served on a big, old farm table, so making the table look pretty won’t be too hard. After finding the ingredients, I will be raiding a grannies china cabinet to see what I can find for the table. It will be fun to look at all her pretty little things to find some special dishes for the table.
I’ve cooked for 15 before, but not so many dishes. With Thanksgiving we usually have pumpkin pie, chocolate mouse pie, lemon meringue pie and that’s just the deserts. I don’t know if I will be adventurous enough to try my grandmother’s lemon meringue recipe, but if I have time it would be fun to make. Meringues are so beautiful!
If I don’t find a Turkey, what should I try instead???? Cornish game hens? A few big chickens, ha, not quite the same!!
Isn’t it nice to have a few days to make food and spend time with friends and family? I can’t believe it’s almost the end of the year!
Thanksgiving is a nice time to reflect on the things we are grateful for. This year, I’m especially grateful to have found all of you on the new adventures of blogging.
What are your plans for Thanksgiving? Are you ready for the holiday?
That’s all for today, talk to you tomorrow. Oh PS, I made the bag in this post when I went to India a while back.
