Today I went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena, CA. I’ve been here before to get design inspiration for work, but this time it was for personal so I could take my time there and enjoy the day with friends.
The Rose Bowl is a wonder. It’s a sea of this and that and you never know what treasures you will find. People literally bring carts to carry the things they find as they wander the huge market. I love seeing everyone with their bags full of goodies and happy smiles of satisfaction for finding something unique.
I think the Rose Bowl really does have some of the best vintage clothing in the world. I’m comparing this to markets like the Porte de Clignancourt Paris, and the Chatuchak Market in Bangkok which are amazing in their own ways.
Overall, my favorite turns out to be the Rose Bowl. You get to shop casually in an open market that’s easy to browse with the added bonus of the California sunshine and their are a lot of great vintage clothes in good condition and some bargains to find.
We wandered around for a full day discovering all the possibilities at the market. There was some pretty cool mid century modern furniture there too, but how would I get that back to NYC?
I couldn’t believe the size of the market, it seems to go on forever. I even saw Coco Rocha there. It was so low key that no one recognized her. I chatted with her for a bit and then we went on with our shopping.
The people at the Rose Bowl are super friendly. There seemed to be a lot of first time visitors, and we were all talking about the cool things we had seen or comparing the things that we found. I ended up leaving with a brown leather jacket and a cute metal handbag from the 1950’s.
Have you been to the Rose Bowl? What’s your favorite place for Vintage shopping, if it’s not a secret????
